I tied to read with the new software and it said cant read radio unsupported radio. I spoke to a radio place and they told me to use V2.9 lower new V3.0 and higher then V2.5 I'm told it is a series 2 radio T2020 I'm told it was programed dos software im unsure of firmware it is running this is the number on side of radio is 583787 if this helps thanksDoes the radio have T2000 II in blue letters above the screen and green LED's beside the selection buttons? Sounds like your radio has an old firmware, not compatible with windows SW, or maybe custom firmware. To find the firmware version, with the radio turned off, hold the PTT button on the mic down and switch on the radio. You will see the firmware version displayed briefly.
The latest Windows versions of Tait programming software can be cumbersome to. The T2020, T5020 and TM8250. Load the Tait programs with any saved.
Post the firmware version and I'll be able to tell what the radio should program with. Does the radio have T2000 II in blue letters above the screen and green LED's beside the selection buttons? Post the firmware version and I'll be able to tell what the radio should program with.Good point, there are dealers out there who have their own firmware and software ESP with later models. Radio has TAIT2000 thats it when turned on lights up with orange screen and buttons firmware version 5.00 thanks againI don't recall there being a standard firmware V5.00 so as I suspected, I think your radio has custom firmware which can't be read/programmed with standard software. The Windows software will read and program standard firmware from V4.9 upwards.
Red LED's were used on series 1 T2020's, green LED's on series 2 T2020's. Have you tried reading the radio with DOS software? If that doesn't work, the only options are to replace/reflash the EPROM/EEPROM with a later release standard firmware in an external programmer. It's difficult to determine exactly what you have, as often there are mods performed to radio internals that do not match what's on the label or external appearances. If you post some pics of external and internal views (large enough to read circuit board numbering, etc) it may help identify it, but so far, it sounds to me like a custom firmware incompatibility issue.
For Firmware lower than V4.09 you must use the DOS Software. V4.09 and above can use the Windows Software. The last version of the DOS Software can actually program radios with Firmware above version V4.09 but only up to V5.54. So there is an overlap. DOS Software will normally work on XP computers, but not all and some Laptops won't run it correctly either. On mine I have to run it in Text mode, by starting it from a Shortcut and adding /t to the command line after the program exe. For instance, C: DOS 2020v254.exe /t Also tick 'Close on exit' and run in 'Full-screen' As it is a DOS program I try not to bury it deep in multiple folder and certainly none with names longer than 8 characters.
Not sure how i post photos? What version on software would i use on firmware 4.1 will it work on xp thanksTo add photos, click on the link directly under the text box you use to post. Add image to post Software version required depends on what version the radio was last programmed with, as it will not run an earlier version of software than was last used. The last release of DOS software was 2.54 which should program any T2020 that was programmed with DOS software (excluding some very old series 1 models). As mentioned, it works on XP but success may vary, depending on the computer you use. It runs fine on two computers I have. Not quite true.
To program Taits, the Software must recognise the version of Firmware in the radio. Any standard Software later than the release of a standard Firmware can read and write to the radio (99% of the time-'disclaimer'). The Software may not recognise a saved programming file that was written in a different version of Software, but that is a quite different problem. There actually is a Version 5.00 Firmware, but it possibly would have been only in a small number of radios built around 1996. DOS Software V2.14 or later is for this version and the Windows version should work as well.
